This lovely thick, rich, creamy, yellow pudding is infused with lemon, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. It tastes wonderful and can be used in other desserts like cakes, pies or cookies.

Ingredients For comforting homemade custard

  • 3 c
    milk
  • 1
    2 inch strip of lemon rind, remove white membrane
  • 1 sm
    cinnamon stick
  • 1/2
    vanilla bean, split lengthwise & scraped
  • 1/8 tsp
    sea salt
  • 3/4 - 1 c
    white sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    flour
  • 4
    jumbo, egg yolks
  • 2 Tbsp
    milk
  • pinch
    nutmeg, fresh ground, garnish
  • 1/4 tsp
    cinnamon, fresh ground, garnish

How To Make comforting homemade custard

  • 1
    Put a large pan on the stove and add the milk, lemon zest, cinnamon stick, vanilla pod and salt; bring to a slow simmer.

    Pour the sugar, flour, egg yolks and 2 tablespoons of milk into a bowl; stir until smooth.

    Remove the lemon, cinnamon stick and vanilla pod from the simmered milk.

    Pour the sugar mixture into the simmered milk, stirring constantly. Stir until smooth over medium heat for about 10 minutes.

    Remove the pot from heat. Pour into serving dishes and place in fridge to chill until ready to serve.

    When ready to serve, garnish with a little fresh ground nutmeg and cinnamon. Enjoy!
