Very rich and decadent, found this inside one of my mother's magazines. I played a little with the recipe, I mixed in approximately 1/4 cup unmelted chocolate chips just to make the taste an adventure. You will want a pot of fresh coffee to serve with this pie.

Ingredients For tar heel pie

  • 1 stick
    butter, unsalted
  • 1/4 c
    semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c
    granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/2 c
    flour
  • 3 lg
    eggs
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp
    instant coffee granules
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    pecans, chopped
  • 1
    refridgerated pie crust

How To Make tar heel pie

  • 1
    Melt butter. Place chocolate chips in large bowl and pour warm butter over top. Stir until smooth
  • 2
    Add in rest of ingredients except for pecans. Mix together and then fold in pecans.

    Pour mixture into pie crust and bake at 350 until filling sets, about 35 to 40 minutes
  • 4
    Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream
