This recipe is from the old Durbin Hotel in Rushville, In., which is no longer in business. My Son's favorite pie.

Ingredients For sugar cream pie

  • 1
    baked pie shell
  • 1 stick
    butter
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 2 c
    whipping cream or half milk half whipping cream
  • 1/4 c
    cornstarch
  • 1/4 c
    milk
  • sprinkle
    nutmeg

How To Make sugar cream pie

  • 1
    Prepare one baked pie shell. If making homeade,use lard. heat oven to 400 degrees.

    Heat together on top of a double boiler, untill very hot & butter is melted: butter, sugar, and cream. add together in bowl 1/4 cup cornstarch and 1/4 cup milk, untill blended. Then add to hot mixture, in double boiler,and Continue cooking until thick.

    Pour into baked pie shell & sprinkle nutmeg and bake in oven for about 5 minutes to set. Let pie cool a bit before putting it in the refrigerator. Should stay overnight in the refrigerator.
