My son's father was crazy for strawberry pie and this was the recipe I always used when I made it for him. It's from an old recipe book but I no longer remember where it came from.

Ingredients For strawberry cream pie

  • 1cup of sugar
  • 6 tbs cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 and 1/2 cups milk, scalded
  • 2 slightly beaten eggs
  • 3 tbs butter
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 9-in baked pastry shell
  • 1 pint strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup heavy creamed, whipped

How To Make strawberry cream pie

  • 1
    Mix Sugar, Cornstarch and Salt.

    Gradually add the milk and cook in a double boiler until thick.

    Add a small amount of hot mixture to the eggs, then stir that into the remaining hot mixture. Cook until thick, stirring constantly.

    Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla. Chill.

    Pour into a cooled baked shell. Cover with strawberries. Chill.

    Spread with sweetened whipped cream just before serving. Garnish with halved berries.
