Butter tarts are about as Canadian as can be and are fantastically good. This tarts remind me of summer vacations in Canada and my sweet cousin Jenny who married a Canadian 30+ years ago.

Ingredients For maple butter tarts

1pie crust recipe, chilled

1/2 cbrown sugar, firmly packed

1/2 cmaple syrup

1/4 cbutter, unsalted, melted

1 tsppure vanilla extract

1/2 cwalnuts or pecans, chopped

1/2 cgolden raisins
How To Make maple butter tarts

1Roll the pastry out to 1/8 inch thick and cut out 12 4-5 inch circles. Press the circles of dough into a muffin baking pan. Chill the muffin pan in the fridge for 45-60 minutes.

2Mix the brown sugar, maple syrup, butter,vanilla extract, salt, walnuts and raisins in a bowl. Pour the mixture into the tarts.

3Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven and bake until set, about 15-25 minutes.
