WWII recipe for mock mince meat...vegetarian, too. I have had this and it is really good. Can be canned and processed in hot water bath, according to some other recipes. This is word for word from and old 1945 cookbook from Indiana.

Ingredients For green tomato mince meat

  • 8 pt
    chopped green tomatoes
  • 3 lb
    granulated sugar
  • 1 c
    cider vinegar
  • 1 c
    grape, or other jelly
  • 2 lb
    seeded raisins
  • 2 Tbsp
    cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp
    nutmeg
  • 1 Tbsp
    salt
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter
  • 3 qt
    chopped apples

How To Make green tomato mince meat

  • 1
    Wash and chop green tomatoes until you have the amount mentioned. Add sugar, vinegar and cook until soft and clear. Then add grape or other fruit jelly, seeded raisins, chopped apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and butter. Let all boil together until apples are tender, boiling slowly. Pack into well-sterilized jars and seal hot.
