These baked apples are so adorable, it's worth the extra bit of work when you want to make something extra special. They're best served warm with vanilla ice cream. You can drizzle with caramel if you're looking for something even sweeter! Recipe adaped from http://domesticdilettante.com/2012/01/11/applepie/

How To Make double apple apple pie
-
1Preheat oven to 375. Slice the tops off of 5 apples, making sure to choose ones that stand straight on their own. Using either a knife and spoon, or a melon baller, scoop out the insides of the apples, being careful to not pierce the skin of the apple. Depending on the amount of apple you were able to save to reuse, you will need an additional 1 or 2 apples for the filling. I was able to save most of it and only needed about 1/2 an apple additionally. Peel additional apple(s) and slice very thin, along with any large chunks from the part scooped out.
-
2Place sliced apples in a large bowl. In a smaller bowl, mix together sugars, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour over the sliced apples and stir well to coat evenly. Spoon mixture into the hollowed out apples.
-
3Roll out your pie crust and cut into strips, anout 1/4" wide. I found a pizza cutter works great for this.
-
4Arrange strips in a lattice pattern over your apples.
-
5Place apples in a baking dish, and pour enough water in to JUST cover the bottom.
-
6Cover dish with foil. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 25 minutes until sliced apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
