Grandma W made this for Grandpa, it was his favorite. She made it with meringue for him, but I prefer cool whip, as she did if bringing this pie to a family reunion for him!

Ingredients For butterscotch pie, grandma w

  • 1 c
    minus 1 t brown sugar
  • 1/3 c
    butter
  • 3
    egg yolks
  • 3 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1 1/2 c
    scalded milk
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1/2 c
    chopped pecans
  • 1
    9" pie crust, baked
  • meringue or cool whip

How To Make butterscotch pie, grandma w

  • 1
    Combine sugar and butter in a pan, cook over low heat until blended. Beat yolks, flour and salt together until smooth, then add milk. Add to sugar mixture and cook, stirring constantly, until thick. Reduce heat and cook 10 additional minutes. Cool. Add vanilla and put in (baked) pie shell. Top with meringue or cool whip.
