black forest mouse pie

This recipe is based on a recipe I saw on the chew for easy holiday desserts. I decided to try it out, but it was too large and very rich. I made a few alterations and posted it. Using the heavy cream instead of milk in the pudding makes such a rich and decadent mouse. If I had not tried it, I would not have believed it. Typically I would not have used a recipe that called for instant pudding, but I was short on time and it looked so good. It was totally worth it.

How To Make black forest mouse pie

  • 1
Put cookies in a food processor add melted butter and stir. Press down in an 8 inch spring pan. Set aside.
  • 2
In a large mixing bowl mix 2 cups of heavy cream, powered sugar, and 1 tsp of vanilla extract. Mix on high until it forms soft peaks.
  • 3
Mix cream cheese, sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla, and 1 cup of whipped cream. Spread over crust.

Mix pudding package with remaining cream (if you use the larger package of pudding it should call for about 3 cups of cold milk replace this with heavy cream) use mixture until the texture becomes very rich and thick like that of a mouse. Fold in chopped cherries. Spread over cream cheese layer.
  • 5
Spread remaining whipped cream over pudding layer and garnish with chocolate shavings and cherries (drained and patted) and round wafer cookies. Refrigerate for one hour before serving.
  • 6
Run a knife around the pan to release before opening spring pan.
