Ingredients For banana cream pie

  • 1
    baked 9 inch pie shell
  • 3/4 c
    sugar
  • 1/4 c
    cornstarch
  • 2 1/2 c
    whole milk
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 3
    egg yolks
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1 to 2
    bananas, sliced
  • 3
    egg whites
  • 1/4 tsp
    cream of tartar
  • 6 Tbsp
    sugar

How To Make banana cream pie

    In a heat proof bowl whisk the egg yolks.

    in saucepan add sugar, cornstarch, salt. Stir in milk.

    Over med heat bring to boiling.
  • 4
    Boil one minute, stirring constantly.
  • 5
    Remove from heat and stir half into beaten egg yolks.
  • 6
    Pour back into sauce pan, and bring back to a boil, stirring constantly 1 minute more.

    Stir in butter and vanilla.

    Put a layer of banana then the pudding mixture.

    Pour into a baked 9 inch pie shell.

    Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

    In a bowl add egg whites, and cream of tartar, whip until stiff peaks form and add the sugar a little at a time.

    Cover pudding mixture making nice peaks and bake until the top is beautifully browned.
