This apple pecan pie has crunchy bits of pecans in every bite. The pecans are placed under a layer of pie crust along with brown sugar. The brown sugar caramelizes while baking which adds to the wonderful flavor. A second layer of crust holds in sliced apples with just the right amount of cinnamon, nutmeg, and apple pie spice.

Ingredients For apple pecan pie

  • softened butter, for greasing
  • 1-1/2 c
    pecan halves
  • 1 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 2
    pie crust shells
  • 2 Tbsp
    fresh lemon juice
  • 3 Tbsp
    all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c
    granulated sugar
  • 1-1/8 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1 Tbsp
    apple pie spice
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 6 c
    cored, sliced Granny Smith apples

How To Make apple pecan pie

  • Layer pecans in a greased pie plate.

    Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Rub soft butter on the bottom and sides of a deep dish pie pan. Place pecans round side down until the whole inside of the pan is covered.
  • Spread brown sugar over the pecans.

    Spread brown sugar until all nuts are covered.
  • Place a pie crust over the nuts.

    Place one pie crust on top of nuts and lightly press into nuts. Set aside.
  • Mix lemon juice, flour, sugar, spices, and vanilla with sliced apples and pour into the pie crust.

    In a bowl mix, lemon juice, flour, granulated sugar, spices, and vanilla. Add sliced apples and toss until coated. Pour evenly into the pie crust.
  • Cover with the second pie crust and poke holes with a fork.

    Cover with the 2nd pie crust folding over the sides and crimping together. Don't worry about how this looks as it is the bottom of your pie. Poke holes at random with a fork for the release of steam.
  • Bake the pie.

    Bake in 450 degree oven for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Place the hot pie crust onto a serving plate.

    Remove from oven. Let cool until bubbling stops. Place pie on a serving dish. You're going to turn the pie out of the pie pan.
  • Flip out the pie.

    Flip the pie pecan side up and serve hot. The pecans should be very shiny. Serve with ice cream.
