Ingredients For all-american apple pie
- CRUST

2 3/4 csifted all purpose flour

1/2 tspsalt

1 cshortening
-
1/4 cbutter

2 to 3 Tbspcold water
- FILLING

4tart apples

1/2 cbrown sugar

1/4 to 1/2 cgranulated sugar

1/2 tspcinnamon

1 dashground nutmeg

1/2 cchopped walnuts

2 Tbspbutter or margarine

1egg, beaten for brushing pie

9-inch pie pan
How To Make all-american apple pie

1Preheat oven to 375 degrees F to 400 degrees F

2For crust, combine flour, shortening, salt and butter with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3Gradually stir in water, a little at a time to form a dough.

4Divide pastry in half.

5Form each half to a flat round.

6Wrap in waxed paper or plastic wrap.

7Chill.

8For filling, peel apples and cut into wedges.

9Combine sugars, cinnamon and nutmeg.

10Roll out half of pastry.

11Fit into a 9-inch pie pan.

12Place half the apples in pan.

13Sprinkle with sugar.

14Top with remaining apples.

15Sprinkle with walnuts.

16Dot with butter.

17Roll out remaining pastry.

18Cut into strips to make a lattice top.

19Brush dough with beaten egg.

20Bake at 375 degrees F to 400 degrees F for 40 to 50 minutes until apples are soft and dough is lightly brown.
