My family gets together every year around Christmas time to make this recipe. It is a labor of love because it takes some time to roll out, cut all the dough and fry it up, but it is well worth it!

Ingredients For strufili - italian honey balls

  • 1/4 lb
    butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 c
    sugar
  • 8
    eggs, beaten well
  • 2 Tbsp
    pure vanilla extract
  • 2 Tbsp
    anise extract
  • 8 c
    flour, sifted
  • 4 Tbsp
    baking powder
  • pinch
    salt

How To Make strufili - italian honey balls

  • 1
    Cream butter and sugar. Add the eggs, vanilla and anise.

    Combine the sifted flour, baking powder and salt and add slowly to the wet mixture.

    Form into a dough ball. Roll into 1/2” logs and slice into 3/4” sections.

    Deep fry. Top with honey and nonpareils or powdered sugar.
