Sherry says this recipe only called for bake in hot oven, she didn't know what temp or how long. Back in the old days when there was not a temperature on the oven, women had to list hot, moderate, etc. They would test by hand. So depending upon the heat each person figured there could be a 25 degree or more difference. That also made listing a time somewhat pointless...LOL. Can you just imagine having to bake that way? My father also remembers they did a lot of canning, since there was no refrigeration available.

  • 4 tsp

    shortening

    Bake in hot oven.

    So a hot oven, suggest 400 degrees, in 8" square ungreased pan, 18-20 min. However, that's my guess.
