Ingredients For mama's steamed bread pudding

  • 4 slice
    bread
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 3 lg
    eggs
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 stick
    butter
  • 1 c
    sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    cocoa (optional)
  • 1/2 c
    dried fruit
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp
    soda bicarbonate
  • WHISKEY CREAM SAUCE
  • 1 c
    heavy cream
  • 3 Tbsp
    maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp
    golden syrup
  • 2 tsp
    whiskey

How To Make mama's steamed bread pudding

    Soak the slices of bread(cut up into small pieces) in milk & set aside
  • 2
    Then cream the butter & sugar until light & fluffy, then add eggs and cream till all are mixed in.

    Now add the soaked bread(reserve the milk) & add cocoa(optional) & sifted flour. If the mixture is too dry add a little more of the milk. The batter should be like cake batter.

    Add fruits like raisins(Mama always added raisins), cranberry, or any other dried fruits. Add soda bicarb & Vanilla & mix all until well mixed.

    Then pour it into a well greased pan & steam for about 30 mins or until the skewer comes out clean.

    This can be eater warm with some whiskey cream sauce.

    For the sauce, mix all the ingredients in a saucepan & heat & stir until it comes to a boil, then lower the heat & simmer for about 8-10 mins. Then take it off the heat & add in the whiskey....the amount is your preference.
