This is my emergency recipe in case I find I am out of the real stuff. I even keep a (expensive) box of powdered milk for such emergencies. Usually I will wait till I can make it to the store, but sometimes a person needs to go ahead with the recipe. Old blue recipe box: unknown

yield 1 can sweetened condensed milk

Ingredients For homemade sweetened condensed milk

  • 1/2 c
    cold water
  • 1 1/2 c
    instant non-fat dry milk powder
  • 3/4 c
    sugar

How To Make homemade sweetened condensed milk

    Add water into a 2-cup glass measurer. Stir in milk powder until smooth. Microwave on high for 30 sec. to one minute until milk is steaming.

    Stir in sugar until dissolved.
