My Mama made these long before they were popular at local fairs and carnivals. This is her recipe.

Ingredients For funnel cakes

  • 3 c
    flour
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 2 c
    milk
  • 3
    eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • oil for deep drying

How To Make funnel cakes

  • 1
    Mix all ingredients, except oil. Put in measuring cup (with lid) or other container with spout to drizzle mixture. Heat oil real hot. Drizzle mixture slowly into oil,beginning in the middle and going round and round in one layer, until it almost covers the pan. Fry on each side until brown, remove from oil and sprinkle with powdered sugar or cinnamon and sugar.

    Until you get the "hang of making these" start with about a 6" sauce pan so the cake won't spread out real big. This takes practice to get a perfectly round cake. My son made these for our local football games, but used a pan that looked like a wok and used butane to cook them. Good !!!
