easy caramel buttermilk icing

This Icing is wonderful on a Fresh Apple Cake. I make my Fresh Apple Cakes in a tube pan. I have this Icing ready and when I take the cake out of the oven I poke holes in the top of it and pour this icing on. I let it sit on a rack until very cool before turning it out on a cake plate.

Ingredients For easy caramel buttermilk icing

  • 1 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 2 Tbsp
    corn syrup, light
  • 3/4 stick
    butter, softened

How To Make easy caramel buttermilk icing

  • 1
    Mix well in heavy 2 qt sauce pan. Bring to a slow boil and slow boil 5 minutes. Remove from heat, pour on cake while hot. Let cool completely.
