I've never known anyone to make these outside our family. I don't know why they're called Delta Bars. I do know that they are really good and are a crowd pleaser. I've seen one similar recipe but there are differences and I think this one is better ... of course.

Ingredients For delta bars
- DOUGH:

1/4 cshortening

1 csugar

1 lgegg

1egg yolk
-
1 tspvanilla extract

1 1/4 cself rising flour
- TOPPING:

1egg white
-
1 cbrown sugar, firmly packed

1 cpecans, chopped
How To Make delta bars

1For the dough: Cream shortening and sugar together; add egg, egg yolk and vanilla. Add flour and mix well.

2Press evenly into a greased 13x9 inch baking pan (dough will spread thin).

3For the topping: beat egg white until stiff peaks form. Fold in brown sugar. Sprinkle pecans over topping.

4Bake at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutesw or until dough is done.

5Cool and cut into squares.
