Core training was something my daughter "Laker" did as a PA (program aide) in Girl Scouts. They made many things in camp, this was the first thing she asked me to make at our next bonfire after training. I have since made this many times, with many different options for topping the pineapples. My favorite, so far, has been the salted caramel topping! But you can easily make this your own by changing your toppings!

Ingredients For core pound cake dessert (camping)

  • slices of pound cake
  • cans of crushed pineapple
  • sprinkles, optional (we have used rainbow and chocolate)
  • salted caramel sauce, optional (but really good)
  • whipped cream, optional

How To Make core pound cake dessert (camping)

  • 1
Take a piece of tin foil, put a piece of the pound cake in the center. We get ours in a fresh loaf at Walmart, or frozen Sarah Lee from Walmart. If frozen, thaw first!

Now put a spoon of the crushed pineapple on top of the pound cake; don't drain, just open the can. Sprinkle with any type of sprinkles.

In a PA training, we added a drizzle of salted caramel topping (oh my land sakes was that well worth doing again cause your tongue and taste buds will do a happy dance like mine did). Fold up the foil well to encase your pound cake, and put at the edge of the campfire to heat through.

When done, eat out of the foil. You can add whipped cream if you want, or ice cream.
