A very dear neighbor gave me this recipe and it makes the ice cream real smooth and delicious, since then it is the only one I use.

Ingredients For french vanilla ice cream

  • 6
    eggs
  • 2 c
    milk----better if you use half and half
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 2 c
    whipping cream
  • 1 Tbsp
    vanilla extract

How To Make french vanilla ice cream

    In top of double boiler beat egg yolks and milk, add sugar and salt. Cook stirring constantly over hot NOT boiling water until thick enough to coat a metal spoon. Let cool. Add cream and vanilla. Freeze by putting in the container of the ice cream maker and using the following amount of ice and salt

    If you are using the old fashioned ice cream maker you would use 8 parts ice to 1 part rock salt. This makes 1 1/2 quarts.
