I usually make this recipe for Christmas (using the green cherries) & for Valentine's Day (using the red cherries). These are real easy to make & very delicious.

Ingredients For maraschino cherry-walnut bars

c2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

c1/2 cup granulated sugar

c1 cup butter

3 eggs

c1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar

tsp3/4 teaspoon bakingpowder

tsp3/4 teaspoon salt
-
tsp3/4 teaspoon vanilla

jar1-6 ounce jar (red or green) maraschino cherries, drained & chopped (reserving 1/4 cup liquid)

c1/2 - 1 cup chopped walnuts
-
c2 cups powdered sugar
-
Tbsp2 -4 tablespoon butter, softened
How To Make maraschino cherry-walnut bars

1Lightly grease a 13x9x2- inch baking pan; set aside. In a large bowl, combine flour & granulated sugar, cut in 1 cup butter until crumbly. Press into prepared pan. Bake in a 350 degree F. oven for 20 minutes.

2Meanwhile, in a medium bowl stir together eggs, brown sugar, baking powder, salt & vanilla. Add cherries & nuts, Spread on top of baked crust. Bake 25 minutes more. Cool on wire rack.

3Combine powdered sugar, tablespoons butter & enough of reserved cherry liquid (3-4 tablesoons) to make icing of spreading consistency. Spread or pipe over cooled bars.
