With Autumn coming on, we are spending our evenings outside by the pond, and I am making some sweet and savory bits, to go with the wine. This comes from a memory of a dessert I had in Boston, about 5 years ago, while on a lecture swing. I do not have the “exact” recipe, but this is pretty close. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

How To Make dessert essentials: cinnamon baked apples

  • 1
    PREP/PREPARE
  • 2
You will need an ovenproof pan with a lid or a glass baking dish to make this recipe
  • 3
Gather your ingredients (mise en place).
  • 4
Take the apple, cut off the top and bottom, and then cut in half.
  • 5
Discard the top and bottom and core the apple slices. I am using a small round pie cutter, but a small knife would do just as fine.
  • 6
Place a rack in the middle position and preheat the oven to 350f (175c).
  • 7
Melt the butter in a small saucepan.
  • 8
Dip the apple slices in the butter and place them into an ovenproof pan, or baking dish.
  • 9
Mix the remaining ingredients together; including the butter, but not the sea salt, and stuff the apple slices.
  • 10
Cover the pan and place into the preheated oven for 11 minutes.
  • 11
If you are using a glass baking dish, cover with a piece of foil.
  • 12
After 10 minutes, uncover, and bake until the apple is tender, about an additional 10 minutes.
  • 13
