Almost 30 years ago, my nephew and niece went to the First Presbyterian Child Care Center in Bryan, TX...or, as my sweet little nephew Jason said, "First Presabubbaterian". The mommy's of the kids put together a little cookbook. There isn't a name on this recipe, but whoever contributed it, THANK YOU! These are one of my favorite treats, especially during the holidays!

Ingredients For cranberry bars
- FILLING

3/4 csugar

1/2 cwater
-
2 cfresh cranberries
-
1/4 corange juice
-
1 Tbspgrated orange peel

1 Tbspbutter
-
1/2 tspcinnamon
-
1/4 tspsalt
-
1 cwalnuts, chopped
- DOUGH
-
2 call purpose flour
-
1 tspsalt
-
1 1/2 csugar
-
1 1/4 cbutter, softened

3 cuncooked oatmeal
How To Make cranberry bars

1To make filling: Combine sugar and water in saucepan and bring to a boil.

2Add cranberries and cook until cranberries pop, about 5 minutes.

3Add orange juice, peel, butter, cinnamon and salt. Cook until mixture thickens, about 5 more minutes.

4Remove from heat and stir in walnuts. Set aside to cool.

5To make dough: Sift flour, salt and sugar. Cut in butter.

6Add oatmeal and mix thoroughly.

7Pat half the oatmeal dough in an ungreased 13 x 9 x 2 pan, patting dough down firmly and evenly.

8Spread filling on top.

9Pat remaining oatmeal dough over the filling.

10Bake in a preheated 425 degree oven for 25-30 minutes or until lightly browned.

11Cool and cut into bars.
