Who doesn't love apple crisp, especially in the fall? As a dessert, serve it warm with vanilla ice cream. For a treat in the morning, have it for breakfast with some vanilla yogurt!

Blue Ribbon Recipe

Jenni's shared a great, basic old-fashioned apple crisp recipe that even a beginner baker could make. It does not make a huge crisp, so perfect for a small family. The apples are coated with a little cinnamon sugar that allows the apples to be the star of the dessert. The crisp sprinkled on top is buttery, full of spices, and bakes perfectly to hold in the apples. We served ours with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and it was a delicious addition.

How To Make cinnamon apple crisp

Test Kitchen Tips
Just make sure to slice the apples thin. If they are too thick, the crumb topping may brown before the apples completely cook.
  • Greased 8x8 pan.
    1
Preheat oven to 375. Grease bottom & sides of an 8x8 square pan with shortening.
  • Sugar and cinnamon mixed together.
    2
In a small bowl, mix together 1/8 c of sugar and 1/4 tsp cinnamon.
  • Tossing sliced apples in cinnamon sugar.
    3
Toss together with the peeled, thinly sliced apples until coated evenly.
  • Spiced apples in the pan.
    4
Spread apples in the bottom of the pan.
  • Adding butter to mixed topping ingredients.
    5
Mix together all topping ingredients except butter. Once mixed, add butter.
  • Topping ingredients fully incorporated.
    6
Mix well. I find it easiest to use my hands to incorporate the butter into the mixture.
  • Topping sprinkled over apples.
    7
    Sprinkle evenly over apple mixture.
  • A spoonful taken out of the Cinnamon Apple Crisp.
    8
Bake about 40-45 minutes at 375 until topping is golden brown. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
