I can't remember where I got this - probably on an internet search when we had ripe cherries and I wanted to make something other than cherry pie. I've also made this in the dead of winter using a bag of mixed berries. I added the almond extract and cinnamon to the original recipe.

Ingredients For cherry dumplings

2 csour cherries

3/4 csugar

1/2 tspalmond extract

1/2 tspground cinnamon

2 Tbspbutter

1 cflour

2 tspbaking powder

pinchsalt (a pinch is about 1/8 tsp.)

3 Tbspcrisco

1 lgegg
-
1 tsppure vanilla extract

1/2 cmilk
How To Make cherry dumplings

1Mix the cherries, sugar, cinnamon and almond extract in a deep pot that has a lid. Bring the mixture to a simmer over med heat.

2In a large bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt. Cut in 3 tablespoons Crisco until the mixture is crumbly

3Beat together the egg, vanilla extract and milk. Stir GENTLY into the dry ingredients just until incorporated.

4Drop the dough by a spoon onto the bubbling cherry mixture. Cook 10 minutes without the lid. Cover the pan and cook 10 minutes more.
