One of my personal favorites. This is my mother's recipe, and it is best served with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients For betty's apple crisp

  • 1 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 c
    butter, room temperature
  • 5 c
    (5-6) granny smith apples

How To Make betty's apple crisp

  • 1
    Mix sugar, flour, spices and salt. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.

    Peal, core and slice apples.
  • 3
    Spread apples over the bottom of buttered 8 or 9 inch square baking pan.
  • 4
    Sprinkle sugar mixture over apples. Pat lightly with fingers.
  • 5
    Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes or until apples are tender.
