This is often called apple strudel although the real strudel is made with a thin layer of dough encasing the apples or other fruit or cheese before it is baked.Like an apple wrapped in dough,baked. This recipe is the modern way if you call a 50 year old recipe modern. Many of you and your mothers probably made it this way though- because it was quick and easy and in these modern days mothers had an outside of the home workplace and less time in the kitchen so the recipe got shortcuts. I call this Apple Crisp. Many still call it Apple Strudel. I will post grandma's German recipe later.

Ingredients For apple strudel bake/ apple crisp

4 or 5 mdtart apples, (granny smith),peeled ,seeded and thinly sliced enough to fill pan using.

2 Tbsplemon juice

1/2 cgranulated sugar or less
-
3 tspground cinnamon, divided
- TOPPING:
-
1/3 call purpose flour
-
1 cslightly crushed cornflakes(=3 c. uncrushed)

1/4 cchopped walnuts
-
1/4 cbrown sugar, lightly packed
-
1/4 cbutter, melted
-
1/2 craisins, if desired
How To Make apple strudel bake/ apple crisp

1Preheat oven to 350^. Grease a 9-inch square baking dish with butter or baking spray. Set aside. Combine the first 4 ingredients together and place in prepared pan.

2Crush cornflakes slightly( 3 cups will make about 1 cup crushed. In a medium bowl combine all remaining ingredients except cornflakes and butter. Gently fold in corn flakes and sprinkle mixture over apples. Drizzle the melted butter over all. Bake in oven for about 30 minutes or until apples are tender.
