I enjoy these bars, they're kind of tart, yet also kind of sweet. I love the combination of the apples and strawberry gelatin in the bars.

Ingredients For apple bars

  • CRUST:
  • 1/2 cup
    butter, softened
  • 1-1/4 cups
    flour
  • 1 tsp.
    baking powder
  • 1 cup
    milk
  • 1
    egg
  • FILLING:
  • 4 cups
    apple slices
  • 1 (3 oz.)
    box strawberry gelatin
  • TOPPING:
  • 1 cup
    flour
  • 3/4 cup
    sugar
  • 1/2 cup
    butter, softened

How To Make apple bars

    Mix the crust ingredients together, then press the crumb mixture into a 13x9x2-inch baking pan.

    For the filling: Arrange apple slices over the crust mixture, then sprinkle the strawberry gelatin over the apple slices.

    For the topping: Mix the flour, sugar, and butter together until crumbly, then sprinkle on top the apple filling.

    Bake in a 350º oven for 25 to 30 minutes.

    Cool completely.

    Refrigerate for several hours, before cutting into bars.
