My mother made these for my six brothers and myself when we were children. When my mother passed in 2006 this was one of the recipes they recalled with fond memory and asked if anyone had the recipe

Ingredients For double nut bars

  • 2 c
    sifted flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 c
    brown sugar firmly packed
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 1 lg
    egg separated
  • 1/4 c
    walnuts finely chopped
  • 1/4 c
    pecans finely chopped

How To Make double nut bars

  • 1
    Sift together flour,baking powder and salt. Set aside
  • 2
    Cream butter,shortening,brown sugar and vanilla. Beat in egg yolk.

    Mix in dry ingredient with a spatula. Spread over bottom of lightly greased jelly roll pan.

    Beat egg white until frothy. Spread over dough. Sprinkle one half with walnuts, the other with the pecans, or mix if you like.Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly browned.Cool slightly on wire rack. Cut into bars with sharp knife.remove to wire rack to finish cooling. STORE IN TIGHTLY COVERED CONTAINER
