This is my favorite oatmeal cookie recipe that I have used for forty years. I have included suggestions for some delicious variations, also. Bet you can't eat just one!

Ingredients For chewy oatmeal cookies

3 cquick cooking oats (uncooked)

1 call purpose flour
-
1/2 tspbaking soda
-
1 tspsalt
-
3/4 cbutter flavor shortening
-
1/2 cwhite sugar
-
1 cfirmly packed dark brown sugar
-
1/4 cwater
-
1 tsppure vanilla extract
-
1 lgegg
How To Make chewy oatmeal cookies

1Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2Combine first four ingredients and set aside.

3In the bowl of a stand mixer or a large mixing bowl, beat together remaining ingredients until creamy.

4Add the flour and oat mixture and mix well.

5Drop rounded teaspoonfuls onto a parchment lined cookie sheet or greased cookie sheet.

6Bake at 350 degrees F for 12 to 14 minutes.

7Remove from cookie sheet and place on parchment paper or foil on flat surface to cool.

8As soon as cool, store in air-tight container.

9Recipe may be doubled.

10NOTE: Great add-ins include dried and chopped cherries or cranberries, chocolate chips, pecans or peanuts, raisins, butterscotch chips, chopped dried pineapple and coconut, white chocolate chips and chopped macadamia nuts.
