funny cake a/k/a chocolate breakfast cake

I am told this Funny Cake is localized to Pennsylvania and was given to me by a Pennsylvania native who indicated it is used as a breakfast cake. I absolutely loved it as it is not too sweet and would be perfect with a hot cup of coffee or tea.

Ingredients For funny cake a/k/a chocolate breakfast cake

  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    oil
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2 c
    flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 2
    pie crusts (store bought)
  • 1 c
    sugar (this starts the chocolate sauce)
  • 1/2 c
    cocoa powder
  • 1 c
    hot water

How To Make funny cake a/k/a chocolate breakfast cake

    350 degree oven. Use your favorite pie crust recipe or store bought crust. Makes two pies.

    In large bowl, cream together sugar, oil and eggs. Mix the flour and baking powder together in a small bowl and add it to the sugar mixture. Beat in the milk and vanilla. Beat until nice and fluffy; about two minutes.

    For the Chocolate Sauce: Mix the 1 cup of sugar with 1/2 cup cocoa and dissolve in 1 cup hot water. Pour the cake batter into the pie shells. Add the chocolate sauce over the top of the cake batter.
