catie’s best supreme coffeecake
(2 ratings)
Originally a contest winner, This recipe has been in our family for more than four generations. While various versions, and alternating ingredients, have been ventured, this is the original, and the best, for a moist, delicious, rich coffeecake! The glaze ( a later generation addition) is not needed, and I do not use one. The cake stands alone, whether for dessert, or with breakfast, or just with a cup of coffee. It has been a hit with everyone over the generations with whom we have shared it, and I hope you enjoy it too!

How To Make catie’s best supreme coffeecake
-
1PAN PREP Lightly grease 10” tube pan (adding fitted waxed paper to bottom helps if pan leaks). (These days I use parchment. Baker’s choice!) Preheat oven to 350〫
-
2STREUSEL Cut in butter with sugar and cinnamon till crumbly. Then gently mix in the chopped nuts. Chill until ready to use in recipe.
-
3COFFEECAKE Sift flour, salt, powder, and soda together. Set aside. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Add vanilla.
-
4Add flour mixture alternately with the sour cream, combining quickly but thoroughly on low speed. In tube pan, Layer in batter and streusel three times, ending with batter. Take butter knife and cut through batter to distribute streusel.
-
5Bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes until done. To cool, remove cake with the tube and bottom of the pan still attached and place on wire rack. After a few minutes, remove cake from tube bottom and finish cooling on rack. ( reinsert cake in pan then invert onto cooling rack, or place onto serving plate. Also, remove wax paper at this time if it was used.)
