I have been making these cookies for my family and friends for about 15 years. They are always a big hit and the "secret ingredient" of frosted flakes gives them extra flavor and texture that everyone really enjoys.

Ingredients For secret ingredient oatmeal cookies

  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 c
    unsalted butter
  • 1/2 c
    solid vegetable shortening
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 3/4 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 2 c
    quick cooking oats
  • 1 3/4 c
    frosted flakes

How To Make secret ingredient oatmeal cookies

    Heat oven to 325*.

    Combine flour, baking powder, soda, and salt; set aside.

    Cream butter and shortening on low speed of a mixer until light and fluffy.

    Gradually add sugar and brown sugar, beating well at medium speed.

    Beat in eggs and vanilla.

    Add flour mixture, mixing well.

    Stir in oats and flakes.

    Drop dough with a cookie scoop onto a greased pan. (I use foil and cooking spray for this.)
