    grated ginger
  • 1
    orange, zested
  • 1/4 c
    orange juice
  • 2 1/4 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    coarse sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    table salt
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 c
    unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 1/2 c
    white sugar
  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    vanilla extract
  • 2 lg
    eggs
  • 2 c
    dark chocolate chips
  • coarse sea salt, for garnish

How To Make salted dark chocolate cookies

    Grate fresh ginger.

    Zest an orange.

    Combine flour, sea salt, table salt, baking soda, zested orange peel, and grated ginger in a bowl.

    Using a mixer, in a separate bowl, cream the butter, shortening, white sugar, brown sugar, orange juice, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.

    One at a time, add eggs to the wet mixture mixing well after each egg.

    Fold dry ingredients and chocolate chips into the wet ingredients.

    Chill for about 15 minutes. While chilling, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

    Drop onto a buttered cookie sheet by the spoonful.

    Bake for 8-10 minutes until light golden brown and still a little soft in the middle.

    Immediately after removing them from the pan, sprinkle just a pinch of coarse salt on the tops of the cookies.
