- BARS:

1 1/2 cbutter or shortening

1/2 cgranulated sugar

2 lgegg yolks, beaten

1/4 tspalmond extract

1 1/4 ccake flour

1/2 tspsalt

1 tspbaking powder

2 Tbspwater
- TOPPING:

1 lgegg white, beaten stiff

1 cbrown sugar, sifted

1 cslivered almonds

directionsbeat the egg,until stiff. fold in brown sugar.spread over unbaked bars and sprinkle with nuts. bake at 325^ for 30 minutes.
- ALTERNATE TOPPING:

1/2 calmond paste

1/4 cgranulated sugar

2 lgegg whites, beaten stiff

directionswork the almond paste and sugar together and combine with the stiffly beaten egg whites. cover baked bars with mixture and bake until the topping is firm and lightly colored. remove from oven and let cool slightly. cut into bars and place on a rack
How To Make royal almond bars-circa-1952

1Heat oven to 325^. Grease a 7x11-inch baking pan or glass dish. Set aside. --- BARS: Cream the shortening and sugar together, add the egg yolks which have been beaten until stiff and lemon colored, add the almond extract.

2Sift the flour, salt and baking powder together and add alternately with the water to the creamed mixture. Spread in prepared pan. Set aside and make topping you desire.
