  • 1 3/4 c
    flour
  • 3/4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp
    allspice
  • 1/8 tsp
    orange extract
  • 1/8 tsp
    lemon extract
  • 1/8 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c
    whole toasted almonds
  • 1
    egg, beaten

    Sift first 3 ingredients. Mix sugar and next 6 ingredients. Add flour mixture and nuts. Knead on floured surface. Divide in half, wrap in plastic and refrigerate 1 hour. Oven to 375 degrees. Roll 1 piece between palms of hand and floured surface to 18" rope. Pat into a 1" wide strip. Arrange diagonally on cookie sheet. Brush with beaten egg. Repeat. Bake until tops are slightly firm and golden brown, about 20 min. Reduce temperature to 300 degrees. Cut cookies into 1" slices and arrange on cookie sheets. Cook another 4 min on each side.
