pecan cookies, mom's

I have never liked cookies made with shortening (funny my mother in law and I were just discussing this at lunch today, and she remembers her mother using lard...times change, don't they?), but these are pretty darn good! I might attempt to make them with butter instead, just to see how they turn out!

Ingredients For pecan cookies, mom's

  • 1 c
    sifted flour
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 1/8 tsp
    cream of tartar
  • 2/3 c
    brown sugar
  • 1
    egg, beaten
  • 1/3 c
    pecans, chopped

How To Make pecan cookies, mom's

  • 1
    Sift flour with cream of tartar. Cream shortening, add sugar. Add egg and mix. Add dry ingredients then nuts. Drop by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheets and bake at 300 degrees 12-14 minutes.
