From the cookbook "Praise For the Cook" published by Proctor & Gamble, 1959. These cookies are amazing and so easy to make! The kids have a blast decorating them too.

Ingredients For no-fail sugar cookies

2/3 ccrisco (i prefer the butter flavor crisco sticks)

1 1/4 csugar

2eggs
-
1 Tbspmilk
-
1 tspvanilla extract

3 ccake flour, sifted

1 tspsalt

2 tspdouble-acting baking powder
How To Make no-fail sugar cookies

1Blend Crisco, sugar, eggs, milk and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.

2Roll 1/8 to 1/4 thick on lightly floured board and cut with cookie cutter.

3Bake in moderate oven, 375 degrees, on ungreased baking sheets for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.

4Remove from pan immediately and sprinkle with sugar, if desired. If frosting, let cool first. Makes 6 to 7 dozen cookies.

5VARIATIONS: Orange or Lemon Cookies - Use 1 T orange or lemon juice in place of milk and stir in 1 T orange or lemon rind. Spice Sugar Cookies - Add 1/2 tsp nutmeg and 1/4 tsp cinnamon with dry ingredients. Crunchy Cookies - Stir 1 cup very finely chopped nuts into cookie dough.
