This chocolate goodness will satisfy your chocolate yen for sure. It is rich and so good. I can't remember where I got the recipe, but it has been in my collection for a very long time. It's written on the back of an envelope that is pretty tattered.

Ingredients For mud pie bars

  • 1 c
    flour
  • 2 Tbsp
    flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 c
    brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 c
    butter or margarine
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1
    egg
  • 1
    12 oz. semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c
    chopped nuts

How To Make mud pie bars

  • 1
    Mix all flour with soda and salt. Cream sugar, butter, eggs and vanilla extract in another bowl until creamy. Add the two bowls together and mix well. Reserve 2/3 cups chocolate chips and stir remainder into batter.

    Add to a foil lined 8x8 square pan. Bake in preheated 375 oven for 25 minutes. Add 2/3 cups chocolate chips to top while still warm and smooth around after they have melted. Chill for 10 minutes.
