This was my mother's recipe and I loved it when holidays arrived so we would be blessed with a couple of cookies.

Ingredients For momma's soft ginger cookies

  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1
    egg
  • 2 Tbsp
    vinegar
  • 2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • ½ tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    oil/shortening
  • 2 c
    molasses
  • 7 c
    flou
  • 2 Tbsp
    ginger
  • 4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 c
    boiling water

How To Make momma's soft ginger cookies

    Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and then beat well.

    Add molasses and vinegar. Mix all the spices, flour, baking powder then sift.

    Sift the dry ingredients into the liquid mixture. Add the water and mix it well!

    The dough will be soft. Roll into balls or drop by teaspoon on greased baking sheet. Sprinkle with sugar and then Bake.
