My aunt gave this recipe to my Mom in the 40's or 50's. They were always made for the holiday season only. I remember making these with my Mom.

  • DRY INGREDIENTS: MIX TOGETHER AND SET ASIDE
  • 4 c
    flour, sifted
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 2 tsp
    ginger
  • 2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 2 tsp
    cloves
  • LIQUID INGREDIENTS
  • 2 stick
    margarine
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1/2 c
    molasses
  • 2 c
    sugar

    Sift together all dry ingredients.

    Cream margarine and sugar. Add molasses and eggs and beat until somewhat fluffy. Hint: Lightly oil the measuring cup that you measure the molasses in - this allows it all to come easily out of the cup.

    Slowly add dry ingredients to liquid ingredients. Refrigerate overnight.

    Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

    Make cinnamon sugar: 1 c. sugar plus 1 tsp. cinnamon mixed together well. Measure chilled dough into 1 TB balls and roll in the cinnamon sugar.

    Place on a lightly sprayed cookie sheet Bake for 9 to 12 min. at 325 degrees. For softer cookies - bake only 9 or 10 min.
