2 1/4 cflour

1 cpacked brown sugar

3/4 cshortening

1/4 cdark molasses

1egg

1 tspbaking soda

1 tspground ginger

1in a mixing bowl place 1/2 the flour. Add the brown sugar, shortening,molasses, egg, baking soda, ginger,cinnamon, and cloves. beat with mixer on medium until all ingredients combined. beat in remaining flour. I refridgerate about 30 min to chill down batter. Then I roll into balls the size of ping pong balls and then roll into granulated sugar and put on cookie sheet. I then flatten each ball with a flat bottom glass which has been coated with pam. then I sprinke with sugar before baking. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes.

2these can be frosted with melted white chocolate for a christmas look and topped with colored candy sprinkles...they are very pretty....
