Of all the cookies in the world, these are my all time favorite. To me the anise is the best! I make these for the Christmas season and I give them out as gifts!

Ingredients For italian white cookies

  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 2 Tbsp
    shortening
  • 6
    eggs
  • 1 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 3/4 c
    milk
  • 2 Tbsp
    oil
  • 2 Tbsp
    anise (or your favorite extract)
  • 6 c
    flour
  • 6 Tbsp
    baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • ICING
  • 1 lb
    powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1/2 c
    milk

How To Make italian white cookies

    Preheat oven to 350*

    Melt butter & shortening; cool.
    Beat eggs, stir in sugar, milk, oil & extract. Mix in butter/shortening mixture. Add flour, baking powder & salt, mix well. Dough should be soft but not sticky, add small amounts of flour if needed to reach a soft consistency.

    Roll dough into 1" balls and place on lightly greased baking sheet about 1" apart. Bake 12-15 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned, cool on racks.

    Icing:

    Mix powdered sugar, vanilla extract & milk until smooth. I use my food processor to mix the icing, it comes out smooth and silky!

    Glaze with icing and sprinkle with colored sprinkles or jimmies.
