The BEST sugar cookies you will ever make. Great for cut-outs and decorating! Depending on how thick you roll them out, they can be soft or crispy. Each time I bring these cookies somewhere new, I'm ALWAYS asked for the recipe.

These really are the perfect sugar cookies! The cookie is not overly sweet, so whatever glaze or icing is used for decoration will sweeten it up. Depending on how thick the dough is rolled, will determine if the sugar cookie is crisp or chewy. We rolled the dough thin for a crisp cookie. If soft is what you like, roll the dough a little thicker. They're a great cut-out cookie for a holiday. Kids can help cut shapes with cookie cutters and decorate.

1 cbutter, softened

3 1/2 call-purpose flour

2 tspcream of tartar

How To Make perfect sugar cookies
Test Kitchen Tips
Even after being chilled, this dough is soft. Make sure to flour your work surface well.

1Cream butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.

2In a separate bowl, combine flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.

3Add dry mixture to wet mixture in small amounts until all incorporated.

4Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (overnight is better).

5Preheat oven to 325 F. On a clean floured surface, roll out small portions of chilled dough to 1/4 inch thickness.

6Cut out shapes using cookie cutters.

7Place cut-out dough on a baking sheet.

8Bake for 10-12 minutes in the preheated oven or until the edges are barely brown.

9Cool. Decorate. Enjoy!
