I just could not keep it back any longer. I was doing some research on one of my moms cookbooks, and found this recipe. Mom made this for my 1st birthday and made it for my birthday until my 20th birthday. Her cookbook went back to 1910, this was really a good find.

Ingredients For granny ruth's fruit drops

1 cshortening

2 canbrown sugar, firmly packed

2eggs

1/2 csoured milk, such as buttermilk

3 1/2 call purpose flour

1 tspbaking soda
-
1 tspsalt

1 1/2 cbroken pecans pieces

2 ccandied cherries halved
-
2 ccut up dates

1Heat oven to 400 degrees.

2Mix shortening, sugar, and eggs well. stir in soured milk.

3Measure flour and sift well.

4Blend dry ingredients stir in. Stir pecans, cherries and dates. Chill at least 1 hour.

5Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough about 2 inches apart on a lightly greased baking sheet.

6Place a pecan half on each cookie, if desired.

7Bake 8 to 10 minutes until almost no imprint remains when touched lightly.

8Makes about 8 dozen cookies.
