gram's nut treats
(3 ratings)
These little treats get better each day..she always would make something similar to this with leftover pie dough, but would just use butter, cinnamon and sugar. When she used the nuts she would make this simple cookie..I call them pinwheels and crescents.. They are not overly sweet, and go well with coffee in the mornin!.. I made these a few days ago and added some powdered sugar..she never did...they are good either way. I love them fresh out of the oven..these never last long at my house..they are a great on the go treat in the morning! Enjoy! My pics

How To Make gram's nut treats
-
1In a medium sized bowl; cream the butter and cream cheese. Add the yolks; mix well..I used my hand mixer. Add the flour and mix well..cover and refrigerate 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees..line a sheet pan with parchment paper or spray well with cooking spray.
-
2In another bowl, mix the sugar, cinnamon and ground nuts. Melt the butter in a small bowl.
-
3After chilling the dough. I cut the dough in half and make crescents out of the first half and pinwheels out of the rest. Flour surface. Roll it out like you would a pie crust...about 1/4 inch thick.
-
4For the crescents; spread 1/2 the melted butter evenly over the dough with a pastry brush..sprinkle half the sugar - nut mixture evenly, cut into pie shapes. Starting at the wide end roll up like you would a crescent roll. Then place on prepared sheet pan.
-
5For the pinwheels; follow the same directions, only roll the dough like you would a cinnamon roll, and slice into about 1 inch rounds, place on baking sheet with the crescents and bake for 12 - 15 minutes, or until they start turning a light brown on the bottom.
-
6I remove from the sheet pan and place on cooling rack as soon as they come out of the oven. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, or leave them as is, totally up to you.. Like I said these actually get better by the day..Enjoy!
