This was my grandmother's recipe that she made for the hollidays. It's a family favorite. It takes a little time to assemble but worth it.

Ingredients For filled cookies

1 cbrown sugar

1/2 cgranulated sugar

1 cshortening
-
2eggs
-
1/2 cmilk
-
3 call purpose flour
-
1 tspbaking powder
-
1 tspbaking soda

1 tspvanilla

opt. pinchnutmeg or cinnamon

1 lbraisins
-
1 lbdates, pitted
-
1 cgranulated sugar

1 cwater
-
1 cfinely diced walnuts
How To Make filled cookies

1Make the cookie dough and refrigerate several hours or overnight.

2Filling: Grind the raisins and dates and add to sugar and water and bring to a boil then reduce heat to simmer and cook until thickened, stiring frequently.

3Stir in nuts after mixture is cooked.

4Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

5Roll out cookie dough on floured table and cut into circles about 3-31/2".

6Put a generous teaspoon of the filling in the center of one of the circles and cover with another circle. Seal cookies by using a fork around the cookie.

7Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until browned.
