I have made this recipe for years. Seems I only make it around the Christmas holiday. Delicious any time of the year.

4 cflour

2 clight brown sugar, packed

1 cbutter

2 lgeggs

2 Tbspmilk

1 tspbaking soda

1 tspbaking powder

2 tspvanilla extract

1 pkg10 ounce pitted dates, finely chopped

1/2 csugar
-
1/2 corange juice
-
1 tsporange peel
-
1/2 cwalnuts, finely chopped
How To Make date pinwheels

1In large bowl, mix at low speed, the brown sugar, butter and eggs. Gradually add the flour, milk, baking soda, baking power, and vanilla. Mix on medium speed about 3 minutes.

2Wrap dough in waxed paper. Refrigerate 1 to 2 hours until firm.

3Meanwhile make the Date - Walnut filling. In medium saucepan over medium heat, heat to boiling the package of finely chopped dates, sugar, orange juice and orange peel. Stir occasionally. Reduce heat to low and simmer 5 minutes or until mixture is thick and liquid is absorbed.

4Stir in 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts. Let filling cool.

5On a work surface slightly moistened, place a sheet of wax paper. Lightly flour wax paper. Place 1/4 of dough on wax paper, keeping rest refrigerated. With lightly floured rolling pin, roll dough into a rectangle.

6Evenly spread on a scant 1/2 cup filling. and roll lengthwise, jelly roll fashion.

7Wrap each log in waxed paper. Refrigerate several hours until firm.

8Preheat oven to 350º. Cut rolled dough into 1/4 inch slices. Cuts easiest with a piece of clean fishing line. Bake 10 minutes or until golden brown. on well greased cookie sheet
