czechoslovcian kolache cookies
This recipe was given to me many, many years ago. So long ago that I don't remember which of my friends gave it to me. I was fortunate to have a number of friends who were fantastic bakers.

Ingredients For czechoslovcian kolache cookies

3 call purpose flour

1 cbutter, softened

1/4 csugar
-
1/2 tspsalt

1 1/4 oz pkgactive dry yeast

1/2 cwarm milk (105* to 115*)

1 lgegg
-
1 tspvanilla
-
1/2 capricot preserves ***
-
One lgegg,. well beaten
- GLAZE
-
2/3 cpowdered sugar
-
1 tspalmond extract
-
2 to 3 tspmilk
How To Make czechoslovcian kolache cookies

1Heat oven to 350°

2Combine flour, butter, surgar and salt in a bowl. Beat at low speed until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3Dissolve yeast in warm milk in another bowl. Stir in 1 egg and vanilla. Add milk mixture to flour mixture. Beat at low speed until well mixed.

4Divide dough in half. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface, one half at a time, to 1/8 to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut dough onto 3 inch squares. Top each square with 1 teaspoon preserves. Bring up two opposite corners of each square to center. Pinch tightly to seal.

5Place 2 inches apart onto greased cookie sheets. Brush with 1 beaten egg. Bake 10 to 15 minutes or until light brown. Cool completely.

6Combine powdered sugar, almond extract and enough milk for desired glazing consistency. Drizzle over cooled cookies.
